Bay Nature’s previous site was dense with information but had no clear path for the user. Some of this was due to a change in the organization’s direction from a community-oriented clearinghouse to focusing on their fine journalism and photography.
For the redesign, I worked closely with the online editor who had come up with a fairly solid idea as to how he wanted the site to look. I also worked with Kathleen Cunningham Design, one of my consistent partners, for help with the final layout. I had to work closely with both to make sure that the site functioned as envisioned and also stayed true to the visual concepts.
This is a fairly complex site with a WooCommerce component. The store includes subscriptions, donations, and (print) magazine issues. Each magazine issues is then linked to online articles from the magazine, which required some custom SQL calls.
Bay Nature‘s new site is responsive and focuses on their excellent nature journalism. Looks great on mobile!
